Springfield Moves on to League Championship
Tuesday, October 19th, 2027
The Springfield Stars clubhouse was doused in champagne tonight at Kekambas Park, after the team wrapped up the Divisional Round.
Springfield downed the Seattle Pikes 7-1 to win the series 4-2.
"There's no champagne if you lose, so it's a pretty sweet thing to taste," said first baseman Elliott Newell, who was named series MVP.
For the series, Newell hit .458 with a .458 on-base percentage. He had 3 home runs, drove in 7 RBI and scored 4 runs.
While they may not get the sweet taste of champagne this year, the Pikes will no doubt be drowning their sorrows tonight.
"It's never easy to lose a playoff series and I don't think there's a single guy in our room who is going to be able to easily accept that our season is now over," said Seattle manager Kevin Hickey.
The Springfield Stars will play against the Fresno Deplorables in the next round. Fresno won their series against the Greenville 84s 4 games to 2. The League Championship schedule will be announced after the Divisional Round finishes.
