Birmingham Beats St. Louis, 5-4
|
The Birmingham Steeldogs did just enough to secure a 5-4 victory over the St. Louis Browns at Gateway Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Mark Anderson, who captured player of the game honors. César López, credited with the win, is now 2-1. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 1 innings. Today's win puts Birmingham at 18-42, while St. Louis falls to 33-27.
It could have been a different outcome for Birmingham, had it not been for Nick Webb, the 27-year old second baseman . Webb contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Birmingham up, 5-4.
"Mark's tempo and rhythm were good," said Steeldogs manager Gilberto Cortéz. "He was the key to us winning."
