Steeldogs Prevail, 5-4, Over Springfield
|
Springfield catcher Don Thomas had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 5-4, to Birmingham at The Ballpark at Sloss Furnace. Thomas was 2-3 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Barton Johnson earned the win for Birmingham. He lasted 6.1 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 9 hits, while striking out 5. With the win, he raised his record to 3-8. Earning his 8th save of the year was Mitch Brown.
José Hernández's at-bat in the bottom of the fifth inning was a big one for Birmingham. Coming to bat with no one out, runners on 2nd and 3rd and Birmingham leading 4-2, the designated hitter hit a sacrifice fly.
"Anytime I can help the team, I feel good about it," said Hernández.
At 14-38, the Steeldogs find themselves in 4th place in the National League Southern Division.
