Tropics Deal Boccabellas Painful Loss
|
Pocatello right fielder Juan Cortés had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Cortés was 3-4 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 runs, even as Maui beat the Boccabellas, 4-3. Cortés was named the player of the game despite the loss. The third-place Boccabellas have lost 5 consecutive games.
In the bottom of the ninth, with one out and the game tied, 3-3, shortstop Matt Silver won it for Maui. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Silver hit a 1-0 splitter from Mike Pierce for a run-scoring single, giving his team a 4-3 win.
"We missed opportunities once again," said losing manager Danny Lombardi.
