Bandits Sink Marshals, 4-3
|
In a close game at Bay View Park, the San Francisco Bandits edged the Houston Marshals, 4-3. San Francisco designated hitter Alberto Gómez earned the nod as player of the game. He went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. San Francisco reliever Alfonso Martínez was the winner. His record is now 1-2. The losing pitcher was Alfonso Ramos. Kunihiko Daikawa sewed up the save, his 8th.
Gómez had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the eighth. On a first pitch slider from Alfonso Ramos, he banged a solo home run to right-center, giving the Bandits a 4-3 lead. It was the 4th home run of the year for Gómez.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Houston manager Tom Lucott.
San Francisco, at 18-22, sits in third place in the National League Western Division.
