Austin got a terrific game from third baseman Juan Castro. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Fresno, 8-5. Castro was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 4-4 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He scored 2 times. Austin has now lost 5 consecutive games.
One important at-bat came with the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning. Facing Austin hurler Dave Huot, Tom Blake, who is on pace for 104 RBI this season, hit a sacrifice fly. The Deplorables went on to win.
"I like our moxie," said Deplorables manager Steve McCann.
