3-1 Win by Browns Continues Hot Start
|
Armando Avilés never let the Cartel get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his forkball, to pitch the Browns to a 3-1 win. The winning pitcher was Avilés, now 3-2. He tossed 7 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 4. Miguel Martínez got credit for the save for St. Louis. It was his 2nd of the year.
One pivotal at-bat came in the top of the seventh with one out. With runners on 1st and 2nd and the Cartel trailing 3-0, Armando Avilés needed to make a quality pitch. He threw a 0-2 curveball to retire Willie Wallace, who struck out.
The Cartel, now 9-19, continue their poor start.
