Milestone Save, Adrián Martínez Gets Number 400
|
Today was a historic day at Greendale Community Field in Pocatello. Once again the gifted bullpen specialist Adrián Martínez calmly did what he has done over and over -- he saved the game for the Pocatello Boccabellas. The 2-1 victory over the Austin River Sharks was his 400th-career save and placed his name among the great relievers in baseball. Martínez nailed down the verdict by holding the opposition to no runs and 1 hit in his 1 innings.
After the final out, Martínez dropped to his knees and pointed a thankful hand toward the sky. After the game, Martínez told reporters, "This was in tribute to my deceased grandfather, who raised me and was such an important part of my life and upbringing. He would have been very proud of me today."
During his career, Martínez has nailed down 400 saves while posting a 2.87 ERA. His lifetime totals also include 55 wins and 76 losses with 697 strikeouts in 779.2 innings.
