Knights Lose Despite Sumita's Valiant Effort
Yasuhiko Sumita did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the New York Knights from losing, 14-7, to the San Francisco Bandits at Bay View Park. Sumita was 4-4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Mabuchi Yoshida got the win, improving to 1-1. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 9 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 2. The Bandits are off to a tough start, getting just their 8th win in 21 games.

San Francisco took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a big hit from Miguel Mendoza. On a 1-0 cutter from Thatcher Smith, Mendoza hit a 2-run single. That made it 5-4, Bandits. For the day, Mendoza was 2-5 with 2 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2.

"We swung the bats pretty good throughout the lineup," said San Francisco skipper Peter McNeill.
