Behind a solid performance from designated hitter José Herrera, the Maui Tropics defeated the Los Cabos Cartel, 5-4. Herrera was 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice for the Tropics. Maui reliever Yong-taek Yi picked up the win, upping his record to 5-2. António Martínez took the loss. César Rúbio earned his 1st save in 2 chances.
The most important at-bat for Maui came in the top of the tenth inning, when catcher Ximena Campos stroked a first pitch fastball to left for a solo home run, putting Maui up, 5-4.
"I'm proud of the way our guys played today to come out with this win," Campos told the Maui Bulletin.
Today's win puts Maui at 55-80, while Los Cabos falls to 60-75.
