Great Effort by Quiñones Wasted in 9-7 Gang Green Loss
|
Irvine first baseman Víctor Quiñones had a good game, even if his team did not. The Gang Green dropped a 9-7 decision to Kalamazoo at Hawthrone Grill. Quiñones slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Kalamazoo reliever Rikiya Sakurai picked up the win, bumping his record to 3-4. Jung Chwa was collared with the loss. Eric Richards nailed down his 1st save.
Kalamazoo took a 7-4 lead on Robinson Fernández's 15th home run of the season. The 3-run home run came off Irvine pitcher Santiago González in the bottom of the seventh.
In comments to the Kalamazoo Bulletin, Fernández admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
Kalamazoo is now 53-61, Irvine 66-49.
