Sanders, Browns Humble Machine
|
The St. Louis Browns topped the Chicago Machine, 18-1, with first baseman Joe Sanders playing a big role. Sanders was 4 for 6 with 2 doubles, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4 for the Browns in the win. Claudio Martínez got the win, improving to 7-3. He worked 5.1 innings, giving up 1 run on 4 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. The Machine have now dropped 5 straight.
R.J. Parker's at-bat in the top of the third inning was a big one for St. Louis. Coming to bat with one out, the bases loaded and St. Louis leading 2-1, the designated hitter drew a walk, driving in 1 run.
"I thought we played a nice game," Parker told the St. Louis Times. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
