Rockets Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Tropics
|
Maui got a terrific performance from third baseman Jesús Espinoza, but it wasn't enough to beat the Nassau Rockets. Nassau won the Nassau Grounds contest, 5-4. Espinoza was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winner was Nassau reliever Tomás Molina, now 3-1. The loser was Brandon Mitchell. Maui is in the throes of a 9-game skid.
Had Pepe Piña not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Piña hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Rockets.
"We're stringing together some nice wins," said Nassau manager Juan López.
