Rebels Saddle Steeldogs with 6-3 Loss
|
The umbrellas came out during the Boston-Birmingham contest at The Ballpark at Sloss Furnace.
Birmingham shortstop Sixto Vélez had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 6-3, to Boston at The Ballpark at Sloss Furnace. Vélez was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Mark MacGruder got credit for the win, improving to 3-13. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits in 5.1 innings. Tony Rocha was credited with the save for Boston, his 19th of the season.
Boston catcher Arturo Molina changed the complexion of the game in the top of the sixth inning. That's when he belted a 2-run home run off Jeffrey Stephens. His 12th home run of the season put Boston in front, 4-3.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Rebels manager Sandy Barnes. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
The 4th-place Steeldogs have dropped 5 straight games.
