Plymouth Beats New Orleans, 3-1
|
The Plymouth Rocks got a magnificent performance from pitcher Dave Smeddon, who stifled the New Orleans offense en route to a 3-1 Rocks win at Play Rocks Field. Smeddon, now 15-3, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing 1 earned run. The Rocks improved to a lofty 71-30.
Roy Patrick took Gennarino Lucchetti deep with one out in the bottom of the first. On a full count fastball, Patrick drilled a 2-run home run to left. It was his 16th home run of the season and put Plymouth on top, 2-0.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Plymouth manager Jaime Torres said.
