Rockets Nip Browns, 4-3
|
The Nassau Rockets scored a 4-3 win versus the St. Louis Browns at Gateway Stadium. Nassau pitcher Dennis Taylor nabbed top player honors in the tight contest. The winning pitcher was Taylor, now 3-2. He tossed 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 6. The Rockets sit in second place in the National League Southern Division with a record of 47-51.
One important at-bat came with runners on 1st and 2nd in the top of the eighth inning. Facing St. Louis hurler John Allan, Doug Thompson, who is a two-time All-Star, hit a run-scoring single. The Rockets went on to win.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said St. Louis manager Jeff Porter. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
