Vargas Belts 6 Hits
The Gilbert Fire Fighters might think twice next time about pitching to Lorenzo Vargas.

At Bear Stearns Memorial Field today, the Fort Collins Commoners catcher burned Gilbert pitching, going 6-for-8 in a 29-2 Fort Collins triumph.

"When he's on his game," Fort Collins skipper Danny Edwards told reporters, "he can probably stroke a base hit blindfolded."

Lorenzo Vargas grounded out in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, grounded out in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.

Vargas is currently batting .385 with 2 home runs, 11 RBIs and 9 runs scored. He has 20 hits in 52 at-bats.
