Knights Roll Over Steeldogs, 9-3
|
The New York Knights overcame a good performance by Birmingham right fielder Chris Miller to knock off Birmingham, 9-3, at Roy Hobbs Memorial Ballpark. Miller went 4 for 4 with a home run and 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. New York starter Elton Johnston was credited with the win after throwing 91 pitches over 6 innings. His record now stands at 5-4. David Bishop earned the save, his 1st, for the Knights.
Tied up with the Steeldogs in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Knights got a boost from third baseman Lonnie Anderson. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Anderson saw a 1-2 circle change from Ken Gary and hit a 2-run triple to break the stalemate and put New York on top, 4-2.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Terry Rogers said.
Their 31-47 record puts the Knights 4th in the National League Eastern Division.
