Steeldogs Beat River Sharks, 3-1
|
In a low-scoring game between the Birmingham Steeldogs and the Austin River Sharks, pitcher Manuel Romero was masterful on the mound. The Birmingham right-hander was named the player of the game in Birmingham's 3-1 win. Jeffrey Stephens closed the door for Birmingham, picking up his 10th save of the year. Birmingham is now 62-95, while Austin is 49-107.
Tied up with the River Sharks in the top of the fourth inning, the Steeldogs got a boost from third baseman Curt Walker. With a runner on 1st, Walker saw a 1-1 sinker from Troy Lynn and hit a run-scoring triple to break the stalemate and put Birmingham on top, 1-0.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Walker.
