Pikes Fall Short at Pocatello
The Pocatello Boccabellas beat the Seattle Pikes, 6-5 at Connie Mack Stadium, in part due to right fielder Juan Cortés, who nabbed player of the game honors. He was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Pocatello reliever Mike Pierce was the winner. His record is now 2-1. The losing pitcher was Manny Sandoval. Adrián Martínez locked down his 20th save.

Cortés had one of his biggest at-bats in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Manny Sandoval, the Pocatello slugger hit a 3-run home run. Suddenly, what had been a 5-3 Pocatello deficit turned into a 6-5 lead. For Cortés, it was his 24th home run of the season.

"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Pocatello manager Danny Lombardi.

The third-place Boccabellas improved to 42-27.
