Career-Ending Injury for Sam Clay Friday, May 22nd, 2026 It looked bad when it happened during the game. Then, later on, one could tell from the grim faces in the Washington clubhouse that the team had lost Sam Clay to a serious injury. Clay, in fact, had sustained a fractured skull colliding with a player at a base in yesterday's Huskies-Fighting Irish game at Frank Eck Stadium. The second baseman's season -- and likely his baseball career -- is over at the age of 21. For the year Clay is batting .314 with 5 home runs. |
