MacAchounich on a Tear, Hits for Cycle Sunday, April 5th, 2026 Getting 4 hits in a game is no easy feat, but hitting for the cycle is much more rare. Jim MacAchounich of the Purdue Boilermakers was in rare form today, hitting for the cycle against Providence. But it wasn't a happy day -- His team still lost 6-4 to the Friars at Lambert Field. In baseball, a player hits for the cycle when he hits a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game, though not necessarily in that order. Collecting the hits in that exact order is known as a "natural cycle," which very rarely occurs. It still was not a bad day for MacAchounich -- he got 4 hits in 4 at-bats with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Despite the loss, his big day at the plate will still get him a mention in the record book. He told reporters after the game, "It just happened. Must have been fate or something... you can't plan this. I was more concerned with winning the game. I hate to lose. 2-for-4 and a win is good enough for me." Jim MacAchounich hit an RBI triple in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Tommy Allen in the 9th. This year MacAchounich is hitting .316 with 1 home run and 4 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .350 clip and scored 3 runs. |
