APL's Top Hitter Announced Tuesday, September 1st, 2026 Athens Assassins fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in August. Tommy Payne put up a remarkable month at the age of 22 and has been named the Appalachian League Batter of the Month. On the month, Payne hit hit .377 with 5 home runs, 27 RBIs and 23 runs scored. To date Payne has chalked up a .309 average with 9 home runs, driven in 59 runs and scored 64 times. |
