When you have the type of year José Pérez did, it's no surprise when you get named the recipient of the Outstanding Hitter Award.

The 23-year-old captured the award for the Northwest League today, after a year in which the Red Deer Wranglers pitcher excelled.

In 33 starts he piled up 196.2 innings, had 221 strikeouts with 71 walks and a 2.84 ERA. Pérez held opposing hitters to a .213 batting average and compiled a 6.0 WAR along the way.

Paul Swift of the Red Deer Wranglers finished second in voting, while John Major of the Moose Jaw Ghostbusters finished third.
