Big Day for Martínez: Swats 5 Hits Friday, August 21st, 2026 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-7 day. It might come around only once in a career -- a lot of players never have one -- but Ramón Martínez got one today. He scattered hits all over Burns Field to pace Calgary to a 36-5 victory over San Jose. The San Jose skipper told reporters in the press room, "Tip your hat to him. He hit some good pitches. According to the scouting report, Martínez hit several that he is not supposed to hit." Ramón Martínez singled in the 1st, flied out in the 2nd, hit a two-run double in the 3rd, grounded out in the 4th, hit a two-run single in the 5th, flied out in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off José Martínez in the 8th and hit a GRAND SLAM off José Martínez in the 8th. In his season totals, Martínez has 27 home runs, .283 BA, .351 OBP, 113 RBIs and 86 runs scored. He has played in 124 games. |
