Career Over, Birmingham's Garrett Suffers Setback
Sunday, October 25th, 2026
Doctors told Glenn Garrett at the outset that his injury was potentially career-ending. As it happens, they were right. The Birmingham center fielder informed his team that he would have to give up baseball and retire. Garrett's injury, a torn back muscle, was just too severe for him to continue his career as a player. The 29-year-old Garrett told reporters he hopes to remain in baseball in some capacity in the Steeldogs organization.
This season Garrett has delivered 57 hits in 196 at-bats for a .291 average with no home runs. He is getting on base at a .382 clip and his totals also include 18 RBIs and 29 runs scored. This year Garrett has played in 50 games.
