Virginia Stops Núñez's Hit Streak Tuesday, May 6th, 2025 For once, it was the Yellow Jackets picking up Rickey Núñez. Their offensive catalyst, as the Georgia Tech manager calls him, saw his 21-game hitting streak snapped as Núñez was held hitless by the Virginia Cavaliers at Russ Chandler Stadium. The 19-year-old left fielder went 0-for-4. It should have made for a lousy day, but his teammates picked up the slack and whipped the Cavaliers 16-7. At the press conference after the game, Núñez told reporters, "Everybody did the job but me. No problem, we won the game." Asked how he felt about the streak ending, he grinned and replied, "It was a good run. I'll try to start another one tomorrow." On the season, Núñez is batting .365 with 7 home runs and 26 RBIs. He has played in 33 games. |
