On a Roll: Bennett Hits for Cycle Sunday, April 28th, 2024 At Jim Patterson Stadium today Rusty Bennett led Florida State to a 17-4 victory over the Cardinals by hitting for the cycle, one of baseball's most difficult feats. The Seminoles shortstop told reporters after the game, "Most people think the triple is the hardest one to get, but today, it was the homer... because the ball wasn't carrying. When I took it deep, I expected the ball to die on the warning track. Seeing the umpire give me the signal to circle the bases was sweet." In addition to going 4-for-6, Bennett chalked up 1 run batted in and scored 3 runs in an exceptional performance. Rusty Bennett doubled in the 1st, tripled in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Vincent Wolfe in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 6th and grounded out in the 8th. This year Bennett has collected a .272 batting average to date with 28 hits in 103 at-bats, 23 RBIs, 9 home runs and scored 22 times. He has played in 25 games. |
