Martin Tosses No-No Against Mountaineers
Sunday, April 28th, 2024
Illinois is abuzz in the wake of a masterful no-hitter by Jerry Martin against the West Virginia Mountaineers. In a dominating 5-0 performance at Hawley Field, the 19-year-old hurler had 12 strikeouts and 2 walks. Not one batter managed a hit.
The West Virginia manager said after the game, "You could tell early on it was going to be a long day for us. He made us look real bad. He was that good. And still going strong at the end of the game."
"Yeah, this was a special day for me," said Martin. "I had my good stuff and good movement... good location, too. Even when I was off and made a mistake, I got away with it today."
This year Martin has fashioned a 5-0 mark, 0.22 ERA and pitched 40.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .105 against him and he has logged 60 strikeouts.
