Matt Murphy Strokes 3 Home Runs Saturday, May 4th, 2024 Matt Murphy of the Golden Gophers won the battle against Rutgers pitching, but lost the war. He hit three out of the park at Siebert Field, got his name in the league record book, but Minnesota came up short in the win column, losing to the Scarlet Knights 9-4. The Minnesota first baseman was red-hot, the ball just exploded off his bat all day long. "I don't try to hit homers," he said. "I try to go out there and have good at-bats. If I put a good swing on the ball, then it is going to go out of the park. I didn't try to hit the first one or the second one or the third one. I just try to have good at-bats." For the game he went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Where does he rank this day in his career? "It's up there," Murphy said. "I'll put it up there in the upper echelon, despite the loss." Matt Murphy hit a solo-shot off Homer House in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Homer House in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Homer House in the 5th, struck out in the 7th and walked in the 9th. Currently Murphy is batting .252 with 13 home runs and 24 RBIs. |
