Matthews 5-for-6 for Lugnuts Sunday, August 18th, 2024 Phil Matthews really sizzled at the plate in today's 17-16 win over Gold Souls. The Lansing right fielder blistered Gresham for 5 hits in 6 at-bats. "Matthews was too tough to get out today," the Gold Souls skipper said in the postgame interview. "No matter what we threw him, he hit it. And he hit some good pitches, too." Phil Matthews tripled in the 2nd, flied out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, hit a two-run home run off Ricky Gutiérrez in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th. Matthews is batting .299 with 5 home runs and 33 RBIs this season. |
