Martínez Sizzles, Vista Fizzles Wednesday, August 28th, 2024 "That's one thing that has never changed in this game -- pitching can control hitting," the D-Bags manager told reporters after today's game. The Panthers ran into a buzzsaw as Sergio Martínez cut them down to size 14-0 with a 3-hit shutout. His skipper added, "He knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one." In the complete game whitewash the Jersey Shore hurler doled out no walks and registered 6 strikeouts. In the postgame press conference his catcher said, "Sergio goes out there and just goes about his business. I don't think he gets too concerned about what's going on. You can call any pitch and you know where he's going to be." Martínez also got some praise from the Vista manager. "He really kept us in check today. Everything looked to be moving. Seemed like the pitch was right down the middle and it went over down and away... we took some pathetic swings." Checking out his stats for the season, Martínez has racked up 6 wins and 3 losses in 16 starts, 4.05 ERA and struck out 61 batters in 102.1 innings. |
