Nantucket Hurler Wins APL Outstanding Hitter Award Sunday, October 15th, 2023 The best could still be yet to come for Alfredo González of the Nantucket Orcas, and that's the scary part. At the age of only 24, the ace pitcher has accomplished a major feat, being named the 2023 Appalachian League Outstanding Hitter Award winner. His breakthrough campaign saw him put up a 20-8 record, while pitching 239.1 innings, with 364 strikeouts and 60 walks, for a 2.48 ERA. González was tough on hitters all season long, as they only put up a .198 batting average against him. "I had a lot of fun this season," the young talent said. Andrew Alvarado of the Louisville Rockets finished second in voting, while Terry Fields of the Nantucket Orcas finished third. |
