Black Cats Turn Back Columbia, 3-2
|
The Black Cats faced a stiff challenge from Columbia pitcher Larry Duille, but persevered to claim a win at Pipers Ballpark. The final score was 3-2. Duille went 6.2 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Brian Guilbert notched his 20th save in 24 chances. The Black Cats have an impressive 41-23 record.
In the bottom of the 6th, first baseman Norberto Santana gave Gwinnett County the lead when he hit a 2-run home run. The Black Cats had been trailing 2-1, but the two-out home run off Columbia pitcher Larry Duille changed that -- and Gwinnett County went on to win.
Santana said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
