Plainsmen Get One-Run Win at Mancelona
|
The Mancelona Torch got a superb performance from shortstop José Santos. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Nebraska. The Plainsmen won the game, 6-5. In spite of the loss, Santos was named the player of the game. He went 3 for 3 with a triple, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times. César Gutiérrez was the winner. Over 6.1 innings, he allowed 5 runs on 10 hits, with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Augusto Cardona was credited with the save for Nebraska, his 23rd of the season.
In the top of the seventh inning, center fielder Phil McCroskey came through big-time for the Plainsmen. With Nebraska leading 5-3, he belted a solo home run.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said McCroskey.
The Torch, now 43-46, have lost 5 in a row.
