Doubledays Bang Out 7-6 Win Versus Royse City
|
The Royse City Targaryens got a superb performance from designated hitter Gonzalo Álvarez. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Tremont. The Doubledays won the game, 7-6. In spite of the loss, Álvarez was named the player of the game. He hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. The winner was Titus Parson, who threw 100 pitches over 6 innings. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs on 7 hits. Alonso Martínez closed it out for his 18th save.
Denis Jerningham had a big 2-run double for the Doubledays in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Tremont leading 5-4 and the bases loaded, he got a forkball from Alberto Reyes and stroked the double to right. It was his 9th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Doubledays ahead, 7-4.
"Enjoyed this one," Jerningham told the Tremont Bulletin. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
The Targaryens, now 33-35, have lost 4 in a row.
