Mermen, Alfonso Blank Phoenix Hotspur Wednesday, September 4th, 2030 Tony Alfonso of the Myrtle Beach Mermen spun his magic on the Phoenix Hotspur Youth today. He blanked them 6-0 on 1 hit, registering 10 strikeouts and 4 walks. "The bottom line was I just kept the ball down," Alfonso said. "My breaking stuff was down. Everything was down." Talking to reporters in the postgame interview, Myrtle Beach skipper José González said the team "got solid pitching, good defense and took great team at-bats in a lot of different situations." "Tony pitched really well but this was a solid performance by everyone," he said. So far this year Alfonso has made 22 starts, tossed 157.1 innings, struck out 153 batters and walked 74.
