Closing In: Northern Virginia Nears R2032 With Dramatic Game Win
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids needed some last-minute heroics to do it, but ultimately emerged one game away from the Round 2032 today. The Rainbow Mermaids got the 4-3 win against the Toledo Stingers in a walk-off at Atlantica. Northern Virginia left-hander Javier Desdin was named player of the game after a solid outing in which he threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball. The win gives the Rainbow Mermaids a - advantage in the best-of- Round 2031.

The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Northern Virginia trailing 3-2, Zahid Kashani hit a fastball from Kyung-un Yi to center for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Rainbow Mermaids had a walk-off win.

"We've got guys willing to do what it takes to win," Kashani told the Northern Virginia Gazette.
