Roode Handcuffs Bruins, Bulls Seize 1-0 Advantage in R1

Mt. Vernon Bulls manager Jeff Walsh knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.
Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 22-year-old right-hander Bobby Roode silenced the host Bellevue Bruins at Bellevue Field today. The Bulls shut out the Bruins by a final score of 5-0, to give the Bulls a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-5 SL A Championship.
Roode, the Mt. Vernon right-hander, went 8 innings, allowing no earned runs on 4 hits. He collected 10 strikeouts.
"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said Roode.
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Bellevue Field. Slated to start are Jesús Franco for the Mt. Vernon Bulls and Jeff Porter for the the Bellevue Bruins.
