Almost There: Northern Virginia On Cusp of R1 Triumph After 7-2 Win

The Northern Virginia starter rose to the occasion at The Voodoo Lounge today, earning player of the game honors after leading the Rainbow Mermaids to a crucial 7-2 victory over the New Orleans Voodoo. López threw 5 innings allowing 1 run as the Rainbow Mermaids won on the road to seize a - lead in the best-of- Round 1.

Northern Virginia designated hitter Kyoji Hakoda helped the Rainbow Mermaids go up, 2-0, in the top of the third inning. With the game tied, Hakoda hit a 2-run home run off New Orleans pitcher Kirby Buckner.

"It was a solid team effort," said López after the game.
