The Richland Rails topped the Myrtle Beach Mermen, 10-4, in USPL Double A action at Tennille Grounds. The player of the game was Richland right fielder Víctor Puente. Russ Melton got the win, improving to 3-12. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 6 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 1 and walking 1. Ron Armstrong was credited with the save for Richland, his 2nd of the season.

Puente contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Richland in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 4-3, Puente took a fastball from Jeff Merritt and stroked the home run to right. His 16th home run of the season allowed the Rails to leap in front, 5-4.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Puente told the Richland Today.

The last-place Rails lifted their record to 40-59.
