Rails Prevail, 5-4, Over Myrtle Beach

The Richland Rails faced a tough opponent in Myrtle Beach pitcher Tony Alfonso, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Rails Ballpark by a final score of 5-4. Alfonso went 6 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Richland reliever Bart Gresham was credited with the win, to go to 2-1. Aaron Houchens took the loss for Myrtle Beach. Hartmann Riedman, credited with the save, is now 4 for 7 in save opportunities.
Had Alexandre Keeping not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Keeping hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Rails.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Myrtle Beach manager José González said following the tough loss.
The 9th-place Mermen have lost 4 consecutive games.
