Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids starter Javier Desdin turned in an exceptional performance against the Phoenix Hotspur at Atlantica, resulting in a Northern Virginia win, 2-1. In 8 innings, Desdin surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. David Hudson, credited with the save, is now 22 for 23 in save opportunities.

Had Zahid Kashani not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Kashani hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Rainbow Mermaids.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Desdin told the Northern Virginia Gazette.
