|
The Billings Polar Bears beat the Yakima Hops, 6-4, at Hops Park. The Polar Bears got a fine performance from shortstop Xavier Vásquez, who captured player of the game honors. He was 3-5 with 3 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Salvador López got the win, improving to 1-0. He held the Hops to 3 earned runs on 3 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 2 and walking 6. The win leaves Billings with a record of 7-7.
Steve Sconiers's at-bat in the top of the fifth inning was a big one for Billings. Coming to bat with one out, the bases loaded and Billings leading 3-2, the first baseman drew a walk, driving in 1 run.
"If the personal accolades come, so be it," said Vásquez. "I just want to win ballgames."
