Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Rick Mayfield, the Ft. Worth Cattlemen defeated the D.C. Divided, 8-1. Mayfield was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for the Cattlemen. Ft. Worth reliever Aaron Wise got the win, raising his record to 3-1. Ji Jing was tagged with the loss. Enrique Cortéz picked up the save, his 2nd.
The Cattlemen got a big at-bat from third baseman Robby Day. For the game, Day was 1 for 4, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run single. His 51st hit of the season gave Ft. Worth a 2-0 lead.
"Today was a lot of fun," said Day.
The Cattlemen now have a record of 34-35 with the win over D.C..
