The South Beach Blaze faced a tough opponent in Mt. Vernon pitcher Steve Costlow, but did just enough to pull out the victory at The Ballpark on the Beach by a final score of 5-3. Costlow went 8 innings and allowed 5 earned runs. Arthur Clough got the win, improving to 2-0. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 6 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 3. Sima Babic closed the door for South Beach, picking up his 1st save of the year.
South Beach center fielder Stanley van de Ven helped the Blaze go up, 5-3, in the bottom of the fourth inning. With the game tied, van de Ven hit a 2-run home run off Mt. Vernon pitcher Steve Costlow.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," van de Ven said after the game.
South Beach, at 14-10, sits in 4th place in the Premier A.
