|
Tom Hegedus never let the Hotspur U-21 get in a groove. The left-hander used his bread and butter, his slider, to pitch the Herons to a 5-1 win. Aaron Houchens, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 3 innings. Hammond is now 8-13, while Phoenix is 7-14.
A key at-bat in the game came in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Herons sent teenager Raymond Dudzinski to the plate against Hotspur U-21 hurler Masahiro Sakei. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a first pitch cutter to score 1.
"We did a lot of things right," said Hegedus.
