Victory Over BC Takes Mercer Island to 59-37
|
San Antonio got a terrific performance from pitcher Felipe Vega, but it wasn't enough to beat the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles. Mercer Island won the San Antonio Field contest, 3-1. Vega was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings of 7-hit ball. Toyozo Yoshida, credited with the win, is now 1-1. He allowed 1 run on 8 hits in 5.1 innings. The Screaming Eagles have an impressive 59-37 record.
With the bases empty and two out in the top of the second inning, second baseman Jorge Pérez delivered big for the Screaming Eagles. Mercer Island was leading 1-0 when he belted a solo home run.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Mercer Island manager Jared Gilbert.
