Youth Come Back Late to Top Screaming Eagles
|
The Phoenix Hotspur Youth and Mercer Island Screaming Eagles played an exciting game at Mercer Island Grounds.
Mercer Island got a terrific performance from pitcher Malulani Anakone, but it wasn't enough to beat the Phoenix Hotspur Youth. Phoenix Hotspur won the Mercer Island Grounds contest, 4-2. Anakone was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball. Phoenix Hotspur reliever Cobus Reijnen picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Nésto Gago absorbed the loss.
The most important at-bat for Phoenix Hotspur came in the top of the ninth inning, when center fielder Wagaw Lukongolo stroked a 1-1 slider to right-center for a 2-run double, putting Phoenix Hotspur up, 3-2.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Lukongolo.
With the win, Phoenix Hotspur boosts its record to 3-3.
