Late Rally by Herons Secures Win
|
The Herons had to overcome a good performance from Bellevue pitcher Loren Berdine to claim a 6-3 win at The Heron Refuge. Berdine went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. Kris Ross got the save, the 5th for him this season. The Hammond Herons, now 13-6, have been on a roll in the early going.
In the bottom of the 8th, catcher Gomez Talone gave Hammond the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Herons had been trailing 3-2, but the two-out single off Bellevue pitcher Masaharu Sakata changed that -- and Hammond went on to win.
"We take it day by day here," said Talone, "and today was a good one for us."
